So I took the SGR VIP train from Mombasa to Nairobi, and let me just say, it was giving rich babe in transit, until they decided to humble me at the end. I have gist.
Mombasa Terminus — Very Clean, Very Calm
From the moment I walked into mombasa Terminus, I already knew I was in for a treat. Everything was clean, calm, and coordinated, no shouting, no confusion, just smooth energy. I didn’t feel rushed or flustered, and for someone who’s not a fan of chaotic spaces, that was a huge plus.
And yes, I booked First Class (obviously). There was no way I was going to sit stiff for hours when I could be reclining with legroom and a view. Sometimes, you have to choose ease. And baby, the difference was clear.
Now Let’s Talk VIP Cabin
This is where things got real soft. The VIP cabin was a whole vibe , solo pods that recline, wide windows, mood lighting, big screens… honestly, I felt like I was in a private jet. No noise, no crowd, no stress

You already know I carried my plush red blanket and got cozy. I even took a little nap with my shades on like one celeb avoiding paparazzi 😂😂, Comfort? 10/10. Legroom? Plenty. Peace and quiet? Priceless.

Breakfast Came Correct
They served breakfast and I was actually impressed. Potatoes (seasoned, not plain), sautéed greens, two sausages, eggs, a croissant, an apple, strawberry yogurt and water (better than Ethiopia airline food) . I wasn’t starving, but the effort was giving luxury train picnic. A sweet touch.

But Let Me Be Honest With You…
That walk from the train to the car park in Nairobi? Absolutely uncalled for 😫😫😫like, why am I trekking like a village champion after paying VIP money? I’m a soft life girl, I don’t do suffering and smiling. It instantly humbled me.
Then the worst part , they dragged my suitcase like it owed them money. My poor baby came out scratched and torn. It looked like it had been in a fight and lost. And this was hard case luggage o, not even soft shell. I was pissed.

Final Thoughts?
Would I recommend the VIP train? Yes a thousand times yes. It’s an affordable way to feel bougie, disconnect from stress, and enjoy a stylish transition from Nairobi to Mombasa or vice versa. But pack light, carry your essentials in a personal bag, and maybe send a little prayer for your checked luggage 😂😂.
Soft girls deserve ease and aside from a few bumps, this was a beautiful journey I’d definitely take again.
